Vacuum lifter training

GGR’s training course for untrained operators on below-the-hook vacuum lifting devices has been developed in association with other industry members to maximise on-site safety. It is the only accredited course in Europe.

Aimed primarily at operators, it also provides valuable information for employers, management/principal contractors, together with health and safety advisors.

All training is carried out by experienced, accredited instructors using purpose-built training facilities at the GGR depots in Manchester and Thame.

The one-day course covers:

  • Responsibilities under current legislation
  • Operator’s safety code
  • Selection of the correct lifter, including inspection and troubleshooting
  • Daily pre-use inspection check list
  • Theory test and practical examination
  • The award of a certificate and photocard to successful candidates

Proof of attendance on this course is now a compulsory requirement for many major management contractors including Bovis Lend Lease, Schal, etc. Until then, it remains the only recognised proof of competence and has been accepted by the MCG (Main Contractors Group) as an interim measure.

In addition, GGR delivers a half-day course aimed at helping supervisors and trade managers develop meaningful risk assessments and method statements for the use of vacuum lifters. Training can usually be carried out at the contractor’s premises.

Please contact GGR for further information or to book a place at either location.
