GGR’s Woods Powr-Grip suction mounts or hand cups proved that they have incredible staying power even in the coldest of temperatures as they were used to create a custom camera rigging system to film ice driving in Sweden.

Ice driving instructor Andrew McKenna was filmed behind the wheel of the BMW M3 rally car as he did 80mph laps around the frozen lake in the Swedish countryside.  Three high capacity 32kg suction mounts with ¼” studs were used in sturdy triangle formation to mount a Canon EOS 5d Mk2 camera onto the roof and bonnet of the car.

The action was filmed by car photographer Neill Watson. Take a look at this video clip to see the final results.

Despite concerns that the rubber pads of the suction mounts might become stiff and lose their grip in the freezing temperatures (-28°C plus wind chill!), the camera rig didn’t budge an inch.

You can read Neill’s photography blog for more information about the ice driving film. Neill also reviewed our Woods Powr-Grip suction mounts on his Carphotographer.net blog, read it here. To find out more about ice driving visit Icedriver.com.
